Accepted Tool Condition Rating Systems

When purchasing used and vintage hand tools, it is always wise to buy from vendors who employ either of these universally accepted condition rating systems, The Fine Tool Journal Tool Classification System (which I created 40 years ago) and a 1 to 100 scale based on the FTJ system. The use of a standardized system helps to avoid overly optimistic characterizations of condition, but they are still based to a certain extent on subjective interpretation. were both presented courtesy of Union Hill Antique Tools
